
With more than 25 years of experience as a CFP® professional and graduate of Brigham Young University, Scott is passionate about helping people make smart, confident financial decisions. Fluent in both Spanish and English, he holds multiple industry registrations—including FINRA Series 7, 24, 53, 63, and 66—as well as a Group 1 insurance license. With his deep understanding of financial planning, Scott takes pride in guiding clients toward strategies that fit their goals. He believes in staying proactive and keeping clients informed every step of the way so they can feel confident about their financial future.
Outside the office, Scott is passionate about giving back to his community. He served on the Garland Chamber of Commerce Board, where he was Chair in 2018, and on the Garland ISD Education Foundation Board, where he served as Chairman in 2024. He previously served on the Board of Baylor Scott & White Garland Hospital, and currently volunteers with Five Loaves in Sachse, Texas. In addition, he continues to serve his congregation through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Scott and his wife, Carrie, have four children, ages 14 to 21, who keep them active and always on their toes. He enjoys spending time with his family and feels fortunate when he can sneak in a few minutes to work on his golf game.

Eric joined MG Retirement Advisors in 2007 after earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Finance from Brigham Young University. He holds Series 7 and 66 registrations, as well as Life and Health insurance licenses, and earned his CFP® designation in 2009 after completing the SMU Certificate Program in Financial Planning. Eric also holds the Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA) designation and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation, and he is an active member of the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA) and serves on the Retirement Plan Advisory Council with the Advisor Group network of Broker/Dealers. With this experience and expertise, Eric focuses on helping plan sponsors and participants navigate the complexities of 401(k) plans, guiding them toward solutions that fit their goals.
Eric has remained deeply involved in his community through service. He is a Leadership Garland alum and Eagle Scout, and he dedicates time to giving back through his church. He enjoys opportunities to make a positive impact in the lives of others and supports his community wherever he can.
Eric and his wife, Sheena, are the proud parents of four active children, and he enjoys being fully involved in their activities and interests. In his free time, Eric is an avid sports fan, has recently picked up pickleball, and enjoys occasional woodworking projects. Conversant in Spanish, he also enjoys connecting with clients and community members in both languages.

A. Road Trip! Pack the kiddos in the car and go explore.

A. Family, Texas Rangers, good people doing good, all things BYU (rise and shout).
Q. What are you happiest doing when not at work?
A. Serving others. Whether it’s helping a buddy move a piano, testing my high school math skills with my son, the “honey-do” list, or volunteering through church…that’s when I’m happiest.
Beyond that, I enjoy trying new hobbies/skills (pickleball, long boarding, wood working).

For more than 38 years, I have developed financial strategies for my clients' investment, estate, insurance and retirement income planning needs. I have developed specific strategies and processes that help enable my clients to have confidence in their financial decisions and pursue their intended goals. As markets and technology have evolved, I have refined my processes to take advantage of improvements in the tools and resources that are available.
I have developed specific experience in retirement income planning and Social Security retirement benefits. I conduct seminars on this subject and serve as a resource to CPAs, attorneys and other financial advisors seeking guidance on investing for retirement income and Social Security claiming strategies.
I have the professional credentials as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). I have served as president of the Dallas chapters of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP) and the Estate Planning Council of North Texas.
I am a fitness enthusiast, an outdoorsman and an avid reader. I have served as a volunteer and in a leadership capacity with numerous charitable and civic organizations. I reside in Far North Dallas and have two adult children and five grandchildren.

Sandra (Sandy) Alvarez serves as assistant to Scott and Eric McMurdie at MG Retirement Advisors. She is a class of ’75 graduate from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education, Language Arts. She has been working with the firm since she retired from her teaching career in 2012. As an office assistant, she enjoys the wide variety of tasks from answering the phones to paperwork prep, customer service and follow-up. When Sandy is not at the office, she might be watching college football or spending time with her son or daughter, son-in-law, and three grandkids. As she says: “Keeping up with the grands is a form of exercise all its own and keeps me young at heart”.

Nancy Dlabaj serves as assistant to Larry Burgess. She has worked with Larry in this capacity for over 10 years and takes care of any and all client needs. Nancy graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 2001. She holds an Insurance license as well as her Series 7 and 66. When she is not at work, Nancy is an avid reader and enjoys travelling and spending time with friends and family.

Suzy Passey joined MG Retirement Advisors in 2020 as a client service specialist. She enjoys working with the MG Retirement Team on tasks from marketing to operations. Over time, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University Idaho as she balanced raising a family. She has a passion for learning and is currently working on her FINRA Series 7 registration in the securities industry. Spending time with her husband, five children, and two grandchildren remains her top priority and greatest joy. She actively serves in her church and community. Her hobbies include pickleball, reading, and projects around the house. “Life is good” is her motto and she tries to live by it each day.
